About Ad Fontes Science™

A division of Ad Fontes Media, built on a decade of experience making information reliability visible and navigable.

Our Mission

To help people using the scientific literature use it more effectively.

Specifically, our mission is to rate scientific literature for reliability and relevance — enabling science audiences to navigate the landscape with confidence, and helping surface high-quality scientific literature for those who need it.

Over the last 20 years, the scientific literature landscape has suffered from the extensive proliferation of unreliable online publications, leading to confusion for both the scientific community and the general public. Generative AI has accelerated this mass proliferation and caused even more confusion in recent years.

Our Approach

Visual. Two-dimensional. Comparative.

Ad Fontes Media has spent nearly a decade helping news consumers navigate the news landscape. The key insight behind the Media Bias Chart® — that a visual, two-dimensional, comparative rating system creates a common reference point that is easy to understand, easy to share, and productive to debate — applies directly to science.

Ad Fontes Media's ratings use content analysis performed by professional analysts, with multiple analysts per source and rigorous inter-rater reliability processes. Those same principles power the SIRC™ — adapted for the unique characteristics of scientific literature.
